It has been quite the weekend but I did have a time I must say, Sunday afternoon I went to see Fences the play at the theatre and it was a much more pleasant experience than I initially let on. I tend to dislike media that centers around infidelity and how it portrays women in the aftermath, but this play was more of a comedic delight. Not because of the overall performance or the play itself lol more so because of all the commentary from the women in the audience.
Every women there was definitely on one accord when it came to hearing the excuses behind Troy's cheating, of course his excuse was that his wife was "smothering him" and his mistress "simply made him laugh" ... Not going to get into that but if Troy wanted to laugh so bad he should have went to a comedy showcase, not went and cheated on his wife.
(If you have never seen Scandal and want to watch the show, the rest of this post is literally paragraphs of me running my mouth about it. You have been warned.)
Although I do hate cheating in every aspect, unfortunately there have been a few times I have "turned the other cheek " strictly for entertainment and most of all FICTIONAL purposes. Y'all know Scandal was THE SHOW when it was airing. I fell in love with the messy relationship between Olivia and Fitz right from the jump as soon as we get introduced to "Sweet Baby".
But it was Fitzgerald Grant III girl and it was so easy to get roped back into him.
If he wasn't MARRIED I fear I too would've been in that toxic tangle. If this was fictional world that is... We all know he did absolutely everything but being President. But it's Tony freaking Goldwyn, I really don't need to explain any further, he speaks for himself. Side note he's also one of the best examples of Hollywood royalty. If you didn't know Tony Goldwyn's grandfather was one of the founders of MGM Studios. He's the G in MGM. (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer)
Back to Scandal, Shonda Rhimes had a hold over me when it came to those two because I was damn near seething when Jake came into the picture. I hated it, but loved it at the same time becuase she used him to press Fitz's buttons. Which Fitz really couldn't be mad anyways seeing as he was the one that was married to another woman...
Now, I am one of those people who will stop watching a show if my fav couple breaks up. I love relationship angst on tv and in books but I was struggling with them. The Fitz, Olivia, Jake trio was too much for me. Then they dragged Edison into it, just a mess for no reason. But I loved it!
Every now and then I rewatch the first 3 seasons because those tend to be the messiest. But what really gagged me was him eventually movning Olivia into the White House and then of course them breaking up which I am def not getting into. I just wish we actually got to see them in Vermont. Then again girl that was kind of a pipedream and now that I've mentioned Vermont. That house he built for her OMG! I would've folded just like she did because how can I be angry after that. You built me a house?!?!? Let me reiterate, this is alternate reality SINGLE Ftiz by the way, because you should never mess with a married man.
To reign this back in about fashion because I've gotten so off topic, Olivia's wardrobe on that show is a perfect example of how I used to dress prior to vintage. She has a lot of vintage flair to her outfits especially with the styling of her coats. I remember when some brand did a collab with the show and released a collection and girl I was shocked at those prices lol. Then again I was in high school/college, had no money and my parents were not about to buy me a $300 coat just because I liked a tv show.
It's sort of funny because I remember complaining about those prices, and now I spend $200+ on a blouse and justtify the purchase because it's "vintage and rare" let alone a coat . Vintage coats especially the ones I have on my fall/winter buy list can easily run from $295-$650, pure insanity. But it's so worth it because they're always either 100% wool, Persian Lamb or of course a Sable Mink. I dream of owning a sable mink or a white mink, they can just be so hard to get vintage at a reasonable price. I remember I saw one this past summer on Etsy priced at $325 and girl I was going to buy it but woke up the next morning and it had sold!!!!!!
I complained to anyone that would listen to me about that for weeks, it was the perfect shoulder measurement and the right 1940s knee length. I was devestated, but it wasn't meant to be or else I would've bought it. So lets hope this summer I have better luck, although I am already eyeing this one coat and mark my words it will be mine. But because I don't want to jinx it I can't let y'all in on whos selling it or what it looks like. I need the Vintage Gods to bless me with this one and can't risk its exposure.
